Air Purifiers: UV Lamps

June 22, 2008 – 1:34 pm

UV lamps are one of the newest technologies in air purification. The UV lamps are able to kill a wide range of contaminants and remove particles in the air, to a much greater degree than many other technologies. They are incredibly easy to maintain and are quite potent, able to clean a wider range of air than many other air purifiers.

UV Lamps Destroy a Wide Range of Pollutants
The UV lamps will be able to kill all kinds of contaminants including bacteria, viruses, mold, and they can even neutralizes gases and chemicals. Youll notice a difference right away; odors will be removed and breathing will be easier. You may even notice other results, such as cleaner surfaces and fabrics. Your food shelf life might even be longer, because molds and bacteria are destroyed.

Unlike many of the air purifiers on the market, the maintenance for this type of purifier is simple. Because the technology is an actual UV bulb, maintenance involves replacing the bulb roughly every three years. They have a life of about 25,000 hours. You can still leave the bulb running 24 hours a day, although the unit uses very little energy. It uses a similar amount of energy as a regular light bulb. You wont need to clean or replace any filters.

The UV lamps are very safe. They produce minimal ozone, a common concern. The ozone produced by these UV lamps is very safe, no more than what is put out by a common hair dryer. Machines that produce significant amounts of ozone may actually remove odors and kill bacteria, but they are also extremely unhealthy. The UV lamp technology will do the same and is extremely safe.
